I used 22 fat quarters and cut 2 8" strips out of each one to make my 9 patch. I have about 6 inches plus or minus of each fat quarter left over, which I hope to use for a border of some sort. After both diagonal cuts, the resulting square is 7 1/2 inches.

Ah I loveeeeeee your fabrics. LOVED the D9P, and Love the S&D version. I wouldn't sash, but would border. It's beautiful and so original!

I like the way it is in the photo.... just need two borders, first one narrow and the other about 4 and a half inches cut.... well done....don't put any grids in the middle... will spoil it.

I believe either version would look good. I like your fabric choices. Just me, but I would frame it (my words) and then add a border all around.

For those who requested pics of the process, I posted a tute in the tutorial section as "D9P - All Shook Up". Enjoy!

I looks good with the extra slice and dice. If you put fillers or sashing or anything else in it, you won't have the flow anymore. Just add a couple of beautiful borders (whatever size you need) and call it good.

I love it! I have done the tossed 9-patch - where you cut down the center of the 9P both directions, but never thought about cutting corner to corner. What a great look! Yes, I would put borders on it.
