I've made quilts using denim and homespun. Instead of making it like a rag quilt and clipping the edges I cut both the denim and the homespun squares on the bias then carefully sewed them together with a piece of batting in between using 1/2" seams. The batting was cut smaller like you do in a rag quilt. I've also done it without the batting for a lighter weight quilt. You don't have to clip the edges like a rag quilt when you do it this way. Once the quilt is washed the edges curl for a nice affect. I hope this make sense.
