Can I use a good cotton fabric as the backing for a jean rag quilt :?: :?: :?: I have never made a rag quilt before. I know that the jean fabric will make a heavy quilt, I want the backing to last. Do I have to put any type of batting in it :?: :?: :?:

This group is great when it comes to quilting.  I love looking at all of the quilts that has been posted.

No you dont have to.....But if you want a cold winter quilt yes you CAN
I have learned from here you can do what YOU want, and how the quilt is going to be used.
Gawd I need to get working on MY quilt
I know Joannes has a double pair of the nippers that are spring loaded they are awsome.

This is my pattern. It's no longer an active webpage, because someone contacted me and said I copied theirs. I had never even SEEN theirs, but it's better to give in than be sued.

My mom makes tons of jean quilts backed with fleece. They're wonderful winter cuddly quilts and my kids adore them.

Thanks Cathe--it was helpful for me to see how to cut the jeans up.

Thank you everyone that posted a reply. My son wants a king size for his bed, so I don't think that I will line it with batting. I don't want it too heavy. The fabric that goes on the back is red with horses on it.

Cathe, your tutorial really helped, I enjoyed looking at all of the beautiful quilts and other items that you have made. Did you use a pattern for the lighthouse quilt, I love lighthouses.
