I have taped my 2 sheets together with strapping tape, then covered them with flannel, I can fold them in the middle to move, if needed. I just lean mine up against the wall at a very slight angle. It works for me.

My SIL used cork board covered with felt. Like you said it's 2 4x8 pieces. Great design was but it did need to have the Molly anchors.

I have a length of 90" W & N hung up on a wall. I like that blocks, etc. cling to it without pins (mostly).
Hope you find something that works for you~

For my design wall I used the 4 x 8 insulation sheets. A friend and I put open garbage bags on the floor of my garage then [1] duct taped the two sheets together, [2] sprayed them with permanent adhesive spray (why we used the garage), & [3] gently applied the W&N batting. Later on another friend came over and we used colorful ribbon to mark 12" squares and diagonals on the W&N so it would be easier to place blocks on the design wall. I bought vinyl at Walmart & made sorta a slip cover for the bottom of the design wall, two pieces of slip cover, so that when folded or open the design wall bottom was protected wouldn't get dusty dirty, as there is no carpet anywhere in my home.

I have sliding double doors on the closet of my sewing room and I covered each one with flannel and this makes my design wall.

I have 2 4x8 sheets of blue foam insulation pinned to the dry wall, covered with a sheet. I can pin anything to it.

I just wish I had room for a design wall. I live in a vary small house and there is just no place to put one.

I purchased a double wide piece of felt a few years back for my design wall and then my husband and I attached it top and bottom with a 2 inch long piece of trim board to the wall in one of our spare rooms. I believe the trim boards are about 5 or more feet in length...it easily manages blocks for a queen. Once we start designing my sewing room over the garage, I will see if I can find another free space to move my DW from the spare bedroom...then I might switch to batting.

I purchased two pieces of fleece, seamed it down the middle, and attached it to the wall just at the ceiling and at the top of the base board with small nails. Unless you put your nose right down on the holes, you will not see them. I took it down this week, bent the nails down, and am gifting it to a friend, rolled nicely into a long roll.
