My Viking Designer 1 is making a groaning sound when I stop and the foot goes down instead of up. Any ideas on what might be wrong? I changed the needle, thread, cleaned the bobbin area. I have been sewing on fleece lately. I wonder if I caused this with fleece? Any ideas?

I bet you there is tiny thread, almost invisible, caught in there some where. I have touched 2 Designer 1 and both had ended up for service. The first one belongs to my best friend. I was helping her figure out the machine and the embroidery arm was defective. The second one was a loaner while my machine was out for service and the little motor to fill the bobbin was permanently engaged making a horrible sound. Both went back for repairs. Is such a sensitive machine.

When was the last time you had it professionally serviced?

I have a Des I with many, many miles on it and have never had any problem with it--but it does sound like maybe the thread cutter mechanism is stuck with the needle down. I would turn the wheel toward me (maybe have to force it just a little bit) just to get the needle up, and then thouroughly clean around the bobbin and under, and especially around the cutter when it comes out. If that doesn't do it, I'd be on my way to the best repairman I could find! You spent too much $$ on that not to have it completely checked out.

Thank you all very much. I did clean as much as I could. I called the repair guy yesterday and I have an appointment for tomorrow afternoon. Having a "sick" machine is the worst. It is due for a cleaning, as well. I remember getting it cleaned around this time last year as he commented that it looked like I was sewing with fleece then (Halloween costumes last year). I think it is time to buy an inexpensive machine and use it for some of these jobs and keep my "baby" for quilting and other sewing (NO MORE FLEECE). I am hoping that he can nurse her back to health without leaving it at the shop. I have never been without a machine. Gerry

Yes, it makes a terrible sound and the foot is down instead of up. I stopped using it so I don't do additional damage.

I'm up and running. My machine was clogged with fleece lint and needed to be cleaned. It is working like a charm now. I'm so happy. Thank you for your support. Gerry
