    Default Deteriorating quilt

Question for fellow quilters: I made a paper pieced wedding ring quilt for my daughter years ago, and her dog clawed portions of it. However, in some areas the dog didn't get to, the batik fabric is still deteriorating along the 1/4 inch line. Also, none of the colored batiks have been affected. The backing is the same neutral batik, and is intact. Anyone have an idea in why the fabric got holes along the 1/4 inch lines?

Are the stitches too tiny or too tight?

According to https://www.allpeoplequilt.com/how-t...g-batik-fabric - one should use a finer needle and possibly a finer thread. I would think a slightly longer stitch length would help, too.

I was free motion quilting. I used the same thing on the colored batiks and none of them shedded. Maybe the quality of the neutral batik was not as good.

    That makes sense.

Is it possible it was close to where the dog was chewing? When my little dog goes on one of his rants, he shakes the object. (He loves the pillow covers in the second bedroom, especially when he doesn't get his way.) He's not chewing, he holding the object in his teeth and shaking it (he's going in for the kill).

That's a possibility, bkay. My dogs do the same. The young one got my old thin hoodie and when I picked it up, it had breaks in the fabric where she was holding it.

I'd love to see pictures of the quilting, both back & front. What is happening to you is just really odd.

I have had that happen where one fabric just failed. It is a bummer when that happens.
