Does anyone use diagonal seam tape and if so do you find it to be helpful? I'm looking to use it for sewing the diagonal on squares (for hst's). Is it hard to get the tape to lie in a perfectly straight line? Thx!

here is a link to the website that "invented" the tape with instructions on how to use. I found the tape at a quilt shop last summer and had forgotten about it. Thanks for the reminder, I need to get it installed on my machine. Can't speak to how well it works, but the instructions seem pretty simple.

I used to use this a lot but somehow stopped. It does take a little patience to get it to lie straight - roll out quite a bit before laying it down. Try not to stretch it. I have been simply cutting my squares diagonally to make HSTs the old fashioned way lately. Works best for me.

To see if you like the concept, you could make one by laying painter’s tape down, then marking the lines with a Sharpie. I use a single line marking for joining binding strips on the bias (including the final join after I have attached the binding to most of the top of the quilt). I learned this from Margo Claiborne’s YouTube on Faux Piped Binding: Margo Clabo's Classroom - Faux-Piped Binding - YouTube. These instructions work perfectly for regular binding as well.

I use it. It stays on my machines. I have a drop in bobbin in some and cut the tape in sections so the bobbin cover can be removed. The strips last on the machine along time. Cleaned the area with alcohol before putting down the tape. It helps me keep the seam straight from corner to corner and it looks nice on the machine.

I have a sew steady mat and use the lines all the time. on my previous machine, I cut enough out so I could change the bobbin, but on my new machine, I can get at the bobbin from the underside, so it stays put. I love that it goes over the joints so they never cause feeding problems.

I use it when I remember I have some. I have trouble remembering a lot of little things like that. I seem to use the same stuff all the time.
I just cleaned out my sewing machine drawer and filled it with clear plastic bins of different sizes so I can actually see what I have.
So far it's working well.

I use it on my treadle machine. It works great, but I wish the lines were a bit thinner.

I have done the painters tape/fine tipped sharpie method and also mark right on the plate with a sharpie and then cover with clear scotch tape. Replace as it wears out. Just bought on sale a roll of the ready made tape at a local quilt shop. this is first time to try ready made- actually I didn't know it existed until recently!

I like Eleanor Burn's "Sew Straight" better than the diagonal seam tape because it's stiff and sticks out in front of my machine. So I can do bigger HST's with it.

It also has diagonal lines that help me line-up my beginning point.
