Didn't plan ahead - need help now!

I decided to have fun with a sampler quilt. I downloaded 12" blocks and set to work, without thinking about how in the world to sash it... In the closeup picture you can see a few colors laying behind some of the blocks, in the larger pic are all the blocks I have done so far. I don't have enough of any one of these pastels to do 2-1/2" or so sashing. But maybe it should be a deep color? Or do all the horizontal sashes have to be the same color? I am just lost...

You guys had so many great ideas, and I am somewhat ashamed to say that I did just a simple 2" sash in off-white. I tried cornerstones, but thought it looked too busy. Using Paint is a really interesting idea, but would be in the "I plan ahead" school of personality, wouldn't it? This is what it looks like now. We have to finish the New Year's jigsaw puzzle before my sandwiching table is available again, so that's it for now on this one.

I think it looks great. Very crisp and geometric looking. I feel like we all benefit when someone asks for design help. Seeing other peoples ideas helps me to think outside the box. Glad you asked and glad you found such a great solution.

Your choice works better than I thought it would, so I learned something too. I think I'd still have to add a darker 2nd border after that light one tho, and use a dark binding also.
Wonderful blocks you made!

I haven't decided whether to do any more border, but definitely will do a dark binding. Partly I am hampered by needing to splice the backing if I get any bigger...it is 41" right now, probably already too wide, huh.

Ah, always something to think about. I back mine with fleece so I get up to the 62" area without worrying. That's a nice size for a very roomy throw.
At 41", I guess it depends on if you are longarming or sending it out for that... I know they need extra around the edges. I could still do it on my home machine, I think.
