Disappearing nine patch is fun. My nine year old granddaughter made on as her second try at quilting and was delighted with the results. Just be sure you square the original patch before you cut.

We use this pattern for Project Linus quilts because it's fun and easy. If you're looking for the specific pattern, you might try googling P/L website and look for the pattern. But, basically, we start out with 8-1/2" or 9-1/2" blocks (bigger means getting done faster). Sew a 9-patch, cut into 4 blocks (through the centers) then re-assemble them. We like to create a pinwheel effect in the middle by arranging the "narrow" strip in the middle. I don't have any pics right now but could make a sample up for you if you'd like. Just send me a PM and I'll get one posted for anyone who wants it.

When I first learned about this block, one of the places I visited mentioned that each of the block positions represented a definite place in the block. The center block becomes a corner stone. The blocks in the 12,3,6, and 9 (the ones that get cut in half) are the frames, while the pieces that are in the upper left, right/lower left,right -- those are not cut at all and are a focus piece.
The one link that was posted showed a pieced heart in those focus places ... it was interesting to me that the heart ended up being upright ... so cool! <wave>

I did a D9P eye spy quilt for my son. I used a more random placement than many that have been shown. I was also not as careful as I should have been in ensuring that the cuts were precise, which, believe me, I regretted as I tried to put it together.

Yeah, when I did the eye spy, I used the eye spy fabrics at the corners of the 9patch, and the orange in the centers.

If you refere to mine it was a tulip block. It was hard to go over all the seams so I might not do that again.

Your quilt was the one I was referring to! I admired your hand quilting....I am new at quilting but good at hand quilting and would like to hand quilt a stencil design. Where did you find your tulip stencil....it looks really pretty and I would love to get one!
