I have the Sapphire 870Q and use newsprint or light paper as the stabilizer. Here's a sample of my satin stitching on it, I'm happy with it, not sure if yours is better or worse? (the 1st block from fatcatpatterns)

Your's looks great! Much better than mine does and more like what it should be. Just curious, what settings did you use for this?

Hi there, I use stitch #32 and change the length to .6 and the zig to 2 and narrow it down to 1.5 for smaller spots & up to 3 for the really large pieces.
These blocks I used rayon thread on the top & 50 weight aurifil in the bobbin. HTH

I have a Brother SQ9000 that decided it did not like Connecting Threads for satin stitch. I changed to Sulky, and it is okay. I now use the CT for regular sewing, and hand quilting.

I would recommend a lightweight thread and a smaller sharp needle in addition to the stabilizer, assuming you are not working on a knit. Also, do you loosen the tension so the top thread wraps to the back side of the fabric? I do know some fabrics are just harder to get even stitching on (denim and other loosely woven gpfabrics in particular!), but you should be able to get a very good satin stitch on your machine.

try using a larger size needle.
that will normally solve the problem.

I find Stitch and Tear stabilizer really helps satin stitch look nice.

Usually Vikings do a great satin stitch. Make sure you use stabilizer & a microtex needle. They're generally one of the best for that particular stitch

If you take your Viking in for service, ask the technician if he can offer any help. I would suggest also using a lightweight stabilizer too as a last resort to buying a new DSM. I have a Bernina 1530 and never had trouble with a satin stitch. Can you post a picture??
