I machine stitch the first side and hand stitch the 2nd side. I like to look at my quilt one last time and think about who I'm giving it to. Hand stitching one side sews all the love in.

This is my preferred methods. I tried machine binding on the front and was not pleased with the results, possibly I just need to check out any new techniques that may have been shared. I also believe it would depend on the use of the quilt. I do find that my hand binding does stand up to the test.

I do both, about 50/50. I have found that the more machine bindings I do, the better they look.

Attach to the front by machine, and then hand sew to the back. There is something wonderful about sitting with the quilt spread out over my legs and hand stitching the binding. If I'm giving the quilt away, that's the last time I get to touch and feel it!!

I sew my binding to the front on my machine, then turn to the back and hand stitch with an invisible applique stitch.

I love to hand stitch the binding. It is relaxing and just fun. However, I have not stitched the binding on a quilt for a long time. My mom, now 89, loves to stitch the binding as much as I do, and can hardly wait to receive the two quilts that are all ready to go when I visit her this Easter weekend. Mom has trouble threading the needles now, so I thread as many needles as she will need (usually extras), and thread them through a piece of fabric. When she needs another length of thread all she needs to do is pull it out, knot it and away she goes. Maybe she can't thread the needle, but her stitches are still just perfect. Can't wait to see her smile when she gets her latest project. She'll have them both done in no time and will be awaiting more. As long as she wants to do it, it's good with me.
