wonder what would happen if you wet it and tried to stretch and flatten it out while wet?.....

Give him a seam ripper and let him pick out the quilting. Or you can both work on it when you have time. If he has extra time, I bet he won't mind. Then you can buy more batting and requilt it.

So sorry to see your quilt like that. I would try soaking in cool water, add some fabric softner, then block the quilt.
Good luck on what ever you do.

To remove the quilting try skinning the quilt. Peel back the top and use the seam ripper that looks like a razor blade. It should go MUCH faster than picking.

I can't believe it shrunk that much. Good thing to know but at your expense. Sorry.

I agree with others. It might be worth while soaking it in a hair conditioner water mix and then trying to reblock it.

I feel your pain. It is soooooooo something my husband would do and think the finished quilt was fine too. Sometimes their help adds tons more work : ) but then he does do tons of fine work too.

Oh I am so sorry this happened. Seeing the photos I can see why you are upset. I don't know how to fix it although there are some good ideas here. If they don't work, I would say it would be worth it to undo the quilting and put new batting in. It's such a lovely quilt, I would hate to see you have to get rid of it. Maybe the unstitching is a good project to do in the fall as the nights grow cooler. the quilt can keep you warm as you work along.

Well, when you take out the stitches they will be close together. Lol.
