    I think they look very nice together. The muted ones add interest and will give your finished piece more dimension. Go for it!

    Another option is to dip, and I mean 'quick dip,' your bright fabrics in a strong tea solution to 'antique' them. That's worked for me several times.

    I would say for you to use the fabrics that you want in the runner. I see no problem with mixing dull with bright.
