Why not use both but the bright ones in the center and dull at the edge.

I recently had to make the same decision...same fabric as one of yours, too. The red and white with small stars looks best against a clean white and dark blue. I even bought the the "Americana" red and blue stars against the muted off-white background (all at WalMart). In the end I used only the clear red, white and blue. I love the other and will use it to make a more "Americana" overall quilt for another veteran. Short answer: I suggest you don't mix looks.

This was my thinking also. The randomization should "even out" all the fabrics and make a great runner as long as you include plenty of each. Have you seen what Bonnie Hunter uses in her scrap quilts? From appearances, I would say everything she can get her hands on. But as someone suggested earlier, cut some of each, lay them out, then step back and see if you like the look. Maybe even take a photo of the layout and see if it looks good to you on the camera screen where everything is smaller and tighter.

I think sometimes you need to add depth, and the only way to do that is use shades of the same color.

    I say go for it!

Hope you post a pic of the final results. I'll be watching.

I think most are good, just leave out the navy stripe. Do you have more of the stamp fabric and fussy cut it? I agree that some bright white would be good.

I LIKE mixing brights with muted colors. It tones things down slightly and adds dimension to the overall look.

They look great together and it will add more interest to the quilt.
