I don't have any table runners, per se, but I use the little "doll quilts" (if I give them as gifts I call them table toppers) I make or get from swaps all the time. I have one on my coffee table, one on top of the TV cabinet, and some that I use sporadically in the middle of the kitchen table, to put the sugar bowl, salt and pepper, etc. on.

Also have a runner on my dresser in the bedroom, but it is a woven souvenir of Peru, not a quilt.

I made my mom a Christmas Table runner a few years ago, and she liked it so much that she kept it out year-round, until I made her some fancy potholders and a little table table topper to put on the table instead.

Well I have certainly read some interesting views on tablerunners, etc. I can see that the majority appreciate and use them, so as gifts they should be fairly welcome. Guess I will start making a few once I can sew again.. in between the big bed quilt projects I have lined up for myself now.
Thank you everyone for your replies.

Just a hint--I Scotchgard mine so they don't stain.

Wildyard, I'm curious; I don't think I know anyone who doesn't use a coffee table. What do you do when you have company and put out snacks and/or beverages? To answer your runner question yes on dining table and coffee table, short ones (table toppers I guess), non-matching, on my endtables.

 I don't use a coffee table either. PITA to have to walk around. End tables are fine for setting drinks and such on. Then again, I don't have much company, but even if I did, I don't want a coffee table.

I don't have a coffee table either. We use side tables only.

I love vintage linens so use table runners, doilies, placemats etc... wherever I can. Love the look. lace and quilts look so lovely together!

I use them on an old table that has a crack down the middle! Otherwise, they are a quick project to I enjoy completing.
