I didn't use to use my scraps at all until I realized just how much yardage I was tossing away.

Yes, I use them to make lap quilts for the shut ins from our church. Now I am using them to make lap quilts for the womens shelter in my city. Great way to use them up and benefit others.

On one of the earlier quilts I made I did the math and figured out the yardage difference between two different methods of flying geese. The difference was a full yard. That yard would have been reduced to waste triangles. I made sure after I figured the difference for that quilt that I don't use any "waste" methods for big quilts any more.

Everyone should learn how to do quilt math. It's really not all that hard if you use a calculator.

I had a large tub of scraps that I rescued after a friend and neighbor died. My husband threatened to throw them out, and I told him that I'd condense them. I've spent the past several day s ironing and cutting. I now have smaller tubs of squares ready to be turned into quilts. I have 2 1/2 in. squares, 3 1/2 in. squares, 4 1/2 in. squares, and a few 6 1/2 squares. I even have a small tub of 2 1/2 x 6 1/2 in. rectangles with the corresponding 2 1/2 by 3 1/2 in pieces to make what my neighbor calls brick wall. Since the pieces don't seem to be the right proportion for bricks, I call them planks.
