table runners, placemats, etc? I always thought I needed a lining, but I noticed those 10-minute table runners don't, so now I'm wondering if I'm wasting fabric.

Hmm, when you say lining, are you talking about fabric backing or batting?

Think you mean batting? If so the 10 minute table runner doesn't call for any. I will use flannel or ugly fabric in place mats sometimes to replace the batting but if you will be quilting the item and want the definition of the quilting to show you will need to use batting.

I do, but that is just because I have alot of leftover batting that is about 15" wide. I don't think it is a requirement, since it actually makes the items thicker on the table.

If you use batting (or any 3rd layer for lining), you should quilt it. Then it won't be a 10 minute table runner.

I've made several of these runners, and they turn out great. If you want more "substance", use decorator fabric. Not only will it have more substance without having to quilt it, it makes a longer runner because of the 54" width - which becomes the length.

I agree the 10 minute table runner is not quilted so you can get away with it. If you want to quilt your items they would need batting.

I like a batting in my runners, its helps to even out the bumps/ridge of the seam allowance. I preshrink my batting for runners. I like crinkle , but not in runners.
