I think I am the odd person out when it come to binding. I love making it, sewing it on and handsewing it to my quilt. To me, it is the final touch and I love seeing how it finishes my quilt. I enjoy sitting and watching/listening to movies while I handstitch.

I only do the binding by hand. I do the right side by machine and the back by hand. I don't want the stitches to show on the front. I don't believe there is any right or wrong way. Everyone has their own preference.

I always hand sew the back. I don't like the stitching to show on the front. When it is a pot holder or something small like that, I will use a decorative stitch but not for anything larger than than. I have tried machine stitching in the past and always felt that it made the front look less that perfect. So I don't risk it. But that is just me.....

By hand. I have done a few by machine to send to Quilts for Kids, but my preference is to finish by hand.

I do the machine the front and then hand stitch the back. I haven't tried machine stitching both, but I know my sister has done it and was pleased with the results. I am fairly new to quilting and I just don't want to ruin all the hard work I have done so far...so for now, I will hand stitch. Maybe some day I will get brave enough to try machine stitching both parts.

I do all mine by machine. I sew to the front, carefully pin so the fabric overlaps theitiching on the back, and stitch in the ditch on the front. If you're careful the stitching won't show on the front and the binding will be stitched down in the back.

I hand stitch..... Actually "I love handwork" sew do it whenever possible. May have to change though one day in the near future as old hands begin to have new issues daily. :( But intend to keep going till no longer possible.
