    My sister and I have done several wedding quilts where we would build it as we go. She has been the one to come up with the beginnings, and then we work together on the rest. I'll try to post a photo of a quilt that we did that...

    LOL.....I have never followed a pattern to a T in my life.
    Even in sewing I would use part of a pattern an use the sleeve off of another and ease it to work. I always liked mine better...
    Are patterns not just a base line...LOL...

    yes. At times I dream of a design. Soon as I wake I draw the idea I dreamed about. I designed a quilt and just made it as I went along. Then after it was twin size I offered it to a young friend of mine. It was a football them of his favorite team. This year for his birthday I am making matching throw pillows. It fun to see something you think up come into being. Dalton loves his dream come true.

    I look at the pattern then do what I want to do. So far it's working out for me.

    What I meant to say is I almost always ad lib no matter what the pattern or the project!! This applies to recipes, too!!
