    I make my own pattern layout on graph paper, then take each piece and gage to size and make that on graph paper also. I use each square of the graph paper as 1 inch. Want 5 inches, use 5 squares. Works beautifully.

    I nearly always "Fly by the seat of my pants". That's what makes our quilts "Original". Anyone can copy a pattern and the fabric called for but what's the fun in that?!?!?! :roll:

    I do wing it alot ... Especially when it comes to the borders. I never have a plan for the borders until the main part of the top is done.

    Yes most of the time. If I do follow a pattern it is only to a point that I can use it as a center focus and move on from there.
