I use them to hang pictures also. Better than nails!

This is what I do. I do not change with every project. Only when I feel it is not stitching quite like it should do I change it out.

you can also use them for sewing thru paper to mark a pattern. I did this when i PP a flying geese. i pinned about 6 or 8 pieces of paper together and ran the unthreaded needle over the sewing lines. worked great.

I use a pill bottle, too...but also use it for old needles and bent/dull pins This one is getting pretty full...will need a fresh one soon.

I don't use a fresh needle with every project, but my machine, fabric and time are too valuable to waste with a questionable needle. The person who taught me to quilt said that the things to do immediately if you have a stitching problem are to rethread, clean and oil the machine and replace the needle. It still surprises me how often a needle problem I don't see of feel exists.

I have a plastic corn starch container with a slit cut by my DH that I use for my "dead" needles and rotary blades.

I'd be happy to take all those old needles off everyones hands that change needles for every new project!
Money is just too tight for me to do that.....

    * I start a new PT job on monday... hope I can hold up to it...*
Good luck on the new job, and thanks for the tip of the grit bag. I remember my Mom having one of those, but I don't. I may have to go looking for one.

I do the same thing except my bottle doesn't have a hole. When the bottle gets full I throw it out.
