I think there is probably a way of saying that you don't like Chevrons and the currently popular colors without being rude and condescending about a style of quilting which many others do enjoy.

There's room for a wide array of styles and tastes in the world of quilting, and it's actually a good thing for more traditional quilters to have so many younger "modern" quilters interested in the hobby -- it keeps manufacturers making fabric, stores (both online and brick and mortar) in business. A quickly pieced, less technically advanced quilt being popular does nothing to detract from the expertise and time you personally invest in a quilt -- so, please avoid saying things that discourage newer quilters and make them feel "less than."
I agree. I love clean modern colors, cutesy fabrics and quick and simple piecing. And just because it's simple and quick piecing doesn't mean it's "slap dash".

I am a modern quilter, younger (relatively) and love big quilting patterns with lots of order and bright contrasting colors. And I love chevron (and houndstooth, and polka dots and brick roads). Stars are too old and fussy for me but if people want to do them, who am I to judge?

I think the chevron can work well....not as well as paisley (yeah I know...paisley).

I don't like any fabric with a definite directional pattern for quilting. I think it's great that others like it and use it.

LOVE LOVE this fabric. It is great to make purses, tots and backing for baby quilts. Try it you will like.

MaryB - that little dress for your granddaughter is adorable! And hopetoquilt, so is the little quilt you made! I had to look close to see the chevron fabric there. Moonrise, those are the cutest phone cases! So fun to see how you each used chevron fabric!
Chevron fabric is great for borders, you sure got that right Jan. It is also great for fussy cutting and using in your block piecing. It really creates extra detail and pattern then.
I used some in a Kaffe Fassett quilt as the border. You can see how it looked before and after putting on the border here:

LOL - not that Kaffe fabric ever needs to be brought to life, but that chevron border supplied a lot of extra Oomph!

I don't care for the Chervon look but I did find a pattern on the web by leedle deedle quilts that is a Rainbow Chervon which looks like flying geese and are made with a strip between then vertical rows.

I love these bags. Maybe a little chevron spices things up.

Also makes great backing fabric where you can quilt from the back following the chevron pattern.

Darn it, I can't get it to add Jan's quote too, but yes, I was thinking the exact same thing. Anybody have any pics of quilts with chevron borders to share?

I like chevrons in theory, but have only used very small and fairly subtle chevron prints because I worry anything larger would mess up the look of the piecing. But a large chevron print WOULD be good for backing as Jan suggested, I like that idea too.
