I use those fabric roller things around the side that is rolled under the arm.....and I have a table set up behind my machine, to support the quilt as it goes through the machine. (I made the table using 2 of the 2 drawer filing cabinets, and an old closet door.....)it is against the wall, and then the machine is against the table, so makes a large work area behind the machine, without taking up too much of my PLAYING room....I do say a few dirty words sometimes in dealing with the bulk.....I may never do another king size one !

I quilt on my regular sewing machine. I just quilted a queen size and I didn't have much trouble. I quilt stitch in the ditch or straight lines. I also do some shadow quilting which is harder on a larger quilt. I usually have a large border and I free motion it. I love free motion. I also have hand quilted and have a couple I'm working on it is relaxing.

It is a type of quilt-as-you-go. You make a sandwich of the quilt block, batting, and backing and sew things together as you go. The "inventor" last name is Cotton. I think if you google "Cotton Method Quilting" you will find more information

Do some hand quilting on a rack. Have tried it on my short arm machine, but too much trouble trying to maneuver that much fabric and keep it from bunching up on the back. I usually just send mine out to be quilted. I would rather piece than struggle with the quilting.
