I'm not retired, but I do find time almost every single day, to either sit at my sewing machine for an hour or more, or at the ironing board with quilting pieces. My sewing room is my sanctuary.

I retired and my quilt production went downhill. I've never had the ability to go to luncheons and I dearly love games, so I joined a club that has lots of games and I keep busy. I quilt occasionally now (love string blocks) and knit and crochet whenever I watch tv. This winter I am going to quilt more, I promise myself.

Kids at home plus weird work schedules means I have my sewing set up in the living room and I sew whenever I can, it's great therapy for me. Currently working on birthday projects for nieces/nephews/my kids plus my son has three pregnant teachers this year who need baby quilts

I sew almost every afternoon but I am hand piecing and hand quilting. If I have something to sew on the machine (binding or a panel I will make a special time early in the day before I get too tired. I am not very good at sewing on the machine. I get in a hurry and it hurts my back and it just is no fun so mostly I sew in the evenings by hand. If I have material to cut or iron I do that earlier in the day and I make a special time for it.

My DH says "as long as Janet has electricity - she will be sewing" I work full-time and sew everyday for at least three hours. My DH is retired and we have no children or pets at home

I don't sew every day as I have other things I love to do as well. I have moods some days I have to sew others I have to paint my plants call to me some days I have to be outside. Some days I just want to read a good book. If I have a quilt or sewing project started I try to stay with it until I finish it. When I buy new fabric I can't wait to get started on a new project. Now it is gifts for Christmas my sewing room is full of new projects to get started.

I don't sew/quilt every day yet, but I'm getting close. I work full-time, but actually get my best time in on my night shifts (there for rounds and emergencies, but have a lot of down-time). I actually keep my sewing machine at work! Eventually I'll get a sewing room set up at home, but it's a little ways off.

I've been keeping a baby quilt on a lap hoop, and have a bag that it fits in (along with the thread, thimble, scissors, and needles). I can carry that bag all over, so it's easy to pull out at home or work when I have some time. I will be hand piecing some larger quilts soon, so will set up another bag with the needed items (possibly a bag made from a book, since it just needs to be small and the hard sides of the book will keep things from getting crushed/wrinkled).

I've also started to crochet, and that's really easy to carry everywhere!

Last night at work I really wasn't feeling well, so I decided there was no point in sewing because I'd make too many mistakes. But, I realized I could still pin the apron I'm making to get it ready to sew tonight. Good thing I did, I found I was missing one piece! I've got the fabric, so I'll cut that out first thing tonight and get ready to put it all together.

I am also retired & I try to sew everyday. It is about my only hobby anymore so it gets a lot of my time.

I still haven't quite figured out a schedule for me, yet. I retired a number of years ago and the idea of a schedule kind of numbs me, it is almost like going to work everyday. And yet, I now feel like Jell-O that was taken out of a Jell-O mold and left sitting in a warm room = I am sort of all over the place. Maybe I should take a page out of your books and schedule a time for me to sew. Probably in the morning, when I am most productive.

It never occurred to me to make a schedule to do it. I usually get up in the morning, get a cup of coffee, maybe some breakfast and then go to the computer to read emails while I sip my coffee. The next thing I know, half the day is gone in a flash and for the rest of the day I play catch-up to finish my chores.

I'm glad that this question was asked, because I never realized that I only sew when I go to sewing at the senior center once a week and have never questioned my lack of progress. I used to be a prolific quilter and now I feel like a slug. Glad that mystery is solved.
