Do you use bias bars?
I have a quilt top that is in need of some stems in order to finish the hand applique on it. I have hunted all over for my bias bars in vain, and finally just ordered another set today. Do you use bias bars when preparing stems for applique, or do you just cut the bias strips and needle turn them?

If it is under 1/8 thick, I usually stem stitch an embroidery line in. If it is 1/4 inch stem, I cut about an inch bias strip. I fold it in half with the right side out, I stitch through the piece with the 1/4 inch fold on the left of the hand stitching line. Once I have it stitched down, I trim the raw edges off until about 1/8 from the stitching line. I then fold the 1/4 inch fold over the stitching line and hand stitch the fold down.

I love Yoko Saito's method. Simple, easy, fast. No more bias bars, no fussing with turning inside out, etc.

I have two sets, but have only tried to use each set one time. They are just too hard to use. I now cut my bias fabric, fold right sides out and stitch along the raw edge. Then roll the stitched edge to the center, press and it is ready to use.
