Do you use the free patterns the fabric manufacturers make available?

I use the Moda Bake Shop ones pretty extensively, but as I do with other patterns, I'm happy to heavily modify the project in order to suit either what I have on hand, or the design I'm looking for. Changing block sizes, adding multiple frames and sashing, changing the finished size, you name it, I've done it. I especially like the Bake Shop for quick whip-ups for gifts or to use scraps (I seem to end up with quite a fair bit in the 2.5" x whatever size)

I have used them, usually using the recommended fabric because it's the fabric that draws me to the pattern. I have found that you really have to be careful with these patterns - I've often found errors. Read twice, measure, twice and cut once.

With the way prices are today if it says FREE and I like it then I use it. Sometimes I can go through a whole list of patterns and not like any and other times I may use 1 or 2. I use the material I have. I don't buy special.

I've saved a lot of free patterns that I'll probably never make. I did buy a kit and got the manufacturer's free pattern off the internet. Not finished yet, but the instructions seem to be accurate. I'm also working on a free tote bag pattern from the Moda Bake Shop, using my own fabric. Not sure if I'm liking my fabric choices, though.

I save them in my computer in My Documents in a folder labled Quilt Patterns and look through the computer folder when I need some ideas for a quilt. Like many others here I usually don't use the colors in the pattern but choose my own color combinations.
