Do you use the free patterns the fabric manufacturers make available?

definitely........and have used their suggestions for the fabric as well as using my own imagination for others.......
that's where the stash comes in handy.
I do buy patterns also when I see a "must have" one or two!

I have printed several of them and used them for ideas kon how to use a fabric I have. I make samples for a LQS and sometimes she will give me a fabric that she would like a sample of and depend on me to come up with a pattern. I'll look online for a similar fabric then combine online pattern with EQ6 to design a new pattern for the featured fabric

Thanks for giving me an opportunity to vent. My favorite quilt store owner had some manufacturer's patterns featuring a line of children's quilt fabrics. Bought the recommended fabrics only to discover when cutting and sewing that the featured fabric squares showing the animal faces could not be cut from the panel -- faces were too small for the block illustrated. Had to go back (40 mile round trip) for something that could be used as a border around each of the five animal faces. Sounds like a very small problem, but with gasoline prices so high the cost of making Linus quilts is a consideration. Easy project turned out to be a little disappointing. Will design my own from now on.

where do you get the 6X9 bags? I wish I could find them!

As far as the fabric, probably not and maybe close unless I just fall in love. Right now I am working on a quilt from a magazine and it is totally not the same colors or fabrics as they show. I just felt that the pattern needed to be lively and fresh where they used neutral colors.

I was just about to create a topic on that very thing. I was doing the shop hop bunny thing this morning and came across "Hoffman Holidays" fabric line. Gorgeous, but I am new to quilting and hadn't a clue what pattern would work with it. I went to the Hoffman website and couldn't find any pattern for it. Website didn't even acknowledge the fabric line when I put it in the search box. If there had been a pattern for it, I probably would have broken my "no more new fabric" pledge to get some (so far, the pledge has been broken more than once!).
I was going to create a topic to ask if anyone had any ideas of a pattern for me to use that fabric. I want to make a lap blanket for my mom out of it to use in December, but I am too new to know what do to with it.
