    Many thanks for your replies. You've confirmed what I suspected. I do have the Kwik Klip which has saved my fingers - somewhat. They're on my shopping list.

    I did use some from Eleanor Burns Quilt In A Day when i used to pin baste. they do help in using the safety pins. get the right size for the right size pins and have good strong pins. clipping in a weak pin and bend it. Ask me how I know...
    also i used a Kwik Klip to help fasten the safety pins. Eleanor called it a tool or something recently. Evidently it's not one of her Sponsors but she did use it. it's a good tool.
