I read Don Aslett's book, "Is There Life After Housework." In it he says the best way to be productive and get things done is to have several things going at the same time. So you work on one thing until you're tired of it, then move to the next, to the next, to the next. Then we're thinking fresh the next time we come around to it.

About 12 years ago, I decided to catalog all of my started projects. I had 75, and decide I had a problem! I'm trying to only work on 12 or so at a time.

Well since most of my stash etc is not here yet yep moving. I brought six 18qt Tubs of scraps with me so in an attempt to use what I already have one long term project is on the wall, appliqué butterflies with massive amount of hand embroidery I’m down to two and a half blocks, one of which I have to redesign, then still have bordersto do. So far about three years into it. Maybe will finish sometime next year. In between in the last month three projects in progress, an arrow quilt for the bed just waiting for the rest of my fabric to get here and hope I have matching fabric for the borders. If not then will have to rethink. From those scraps got enough blocks for a lap quilt again waiting for borders. I did finish a small shadow trapunto piece. Then today started tracing the pattern for another shadow trapunto wall hanging for my daughter. Two other tops are done just need to sandwich and quilt, but I am holding out for a sweet 16. My 7”Bernina throat space is just too small for bigger pieces. I also have my bucket list. Another idea is floating around too have one block pinned on the wall, maybe, maybe not.

I usually do have more than one project going. E.g. right now, I am working on a baby quilt and I also have 2 quilt tops waiting to be quilted. But sometimes I want to do something different, so I do have some EPP hexies to keep me busy, e.g. while watching Netflix.

And I'm having a "Wild & Goosey" in progress. But that one has been in progress for a number of years. I just occasionally use some scraps to PP another block. Sometimes for me, it's about doing something I enjoy and not just about having the finished work in hand. So I'm not really planning to finish it any time soon.

Also, because I kind of live in two countries, there's two more quilt tops waiting to be quilted in a box at my parents' house. Will be there this winter, so maybe I get to finish them?

I have one top finished, need to get it sandwiched and get it quilted. First time taking a quilt somewhere. I have two quilts in progress, doing almost identical side by side. I have at least a dozen "ready to go" as in pattern, fabric, and batting all together. I have several more with fabric collected, no pattern, just the idea of what I want to do. Then there are all the patterns I'm going to do, but don't have the fabric for yet. Then there is the stash fabric, just waiting to be used. Then, there is the time issue. It's summer, with garden produce, cabin, grand kids, travel, remodeling and painting!! Not enough hours in the day!!

I like the idea of keeping the start date with the UFO. Maybe, I'd get the oldest finished.

Yesterday, I went to our comfort quilts leader to deliver a pkg (top, bottom & binding). Then I brought home 4 projects, 3 needed to be larger & have backs and binding. One needs the back & binding. I've finished the 3 small projects. The larger quilt is probably the least amount of work: just add some strips to a large piece of fabric to make it larger to fit the front. Next week, I'll return them.

Then, I need to work on some of my art quilts. December I'll have an art show & need new completed projects.

I do have a few UFO's I'd really like to finish: a bag, some improv quilts, backs for 4 comfort quilts.

So next I'll make the backs. Opps, on Monday sew group, I'll take some improve.

I think most quilters have more than one project going. I keep a list of UFOs and also a list of finishes each year. I have decided to send bigger quilts out for quilting since the long armers do a better and faster job than I can. I also keep a little spiral notebook with sizes, dates, etc. for the quilts as I begin them. I have a box of orphan blocks that I use for making mug rugs, tote bags, pillows, etc. I do a lot of swaps and blocks of the week/month which adds to the volume. But it's all fun and I have learned to let go of the guilt and just enjoy the process.

I try not to have too many...maybe three. I like to finish something before starting another. If I have something that has lingered into the new year, it goes at the top of my annual list of goals on January 1. The list of three does not include little projects that pop up here in there like sleep sacks, baby quilts or appliqué projects.

I have a large tote of tops, but need to get the backing and binding for them. 4 separate boxes of started PP blocks.
And way too many bits of started stuff, so yeah, I guess I have too much started")

That's a lot of quilts going on, Iceblossom! It would take me too long to make 12 quilts, but maybe I could make a set of potholders for each month.

I'm always planning my next projects, otherwise I finish something up and have nothing to work on because I don't have the fabrics or other supplies I need or I haven't really worked out what I'm doing. I would even count making the first practice block of a quilt as part of the planning stage for me. If you count the planning stage, then I generally have five or six projects going at a time, though it can vary a lot.

I only consider myself "working on" one project at a time, but sometimes I'll take a break from a big project like a quilt to make something smaller, like a bag or a small gift for someone that can't wait for me to finish my quilt.

Right now my active project is shopping bags. These are fun because they go together so fast! I've got three quilts in the planning phases, and I have some appliqué designs that I've drawn but I haven't figured out what they're going on yet. I also have some patterns for some shirts, but I haven't found fabric for them yet.
