Just curious - there are so many gifted men out there that are much better all-around quilters than we ladies are. Many men feel that their masculinity is in jeopardy if they DO quilt, and the rest are creative, throw caution to the wind and have at it - what about YOURS? I think mine WOULD if other men in the "circle" would have a stab at it!

My DH will come up to my sewing room while I am embroidering, He can stand there for an hr and watch it. He will say "It still amazes me what that machine can do". I have 2 embroidery machines and have told him to sit down and you can use the other one. He has never taken me up, but maybe one day he will try his hand at the emboridery part. Somehow I can't picture my big burly husband doing any piecework.LOL

no..never..so i divorced him..
okay okay, i know that sounds harsh..but if HE quilted then HE would understand the need for so much fabric..it was my work and he still whined..
my replacement beau has no interest at all in all that girlie stuff, but at least he doesn't comment at all, just toally accepts my need for creative expression..that i can live with..
tho another set of hands would be a help..hmmm

my DH has made one lap quilt - I cut out the pieces for him and helped him a lot..
We were just at Marshall Dry Goods Monday and he picked out fabric for another quilt and says he's going to do this one all by himself... cutting, and everything..
He also says he's going to do it all by hand...
I just told him he may want to use one of the treadle machines tho....
And in 45 years of marriage I've never once questioned his masculinity!! People need to keep in mind that tailors were traditionally MEN... since when is sewing just a female pursuit??

Well I think my husband would maybe help me hand quilt, which I've never done. But he has talked about doing it before. I take my quilts to someone and they quilt them on the big machine. My husband thinks that If I take it to someone else to quilt that I can't say I made it. He doesn't understand all the other work that goes into a quilt top. So he considers me a "topper" not a "quilter." But what does he know, he's only 32 years old. LOL

Mine would and does at times but he is an avid wood worker. Also I like my space as he tends to know it all. I think over time we might do some things together but I am happy with us collecting vintage sewing machines together and then me quilting and him making awesome stuff out of wood. As for masculinity I doubt any one would question him on that if he quilts and he could not care. He is the type that wore our children, when they were babies, in a sling and pushed the stroller.

My DH is not a quilter, but he often helps me when I need an extra set of hands to hold or measure something. He was very proud of himself when he figured out how to change the light bulb in my machine. Since my sewing area, TV, and computer are all in our 10' x 17' living room (that's New York for ya), he sees most everything I do. He's never expressed even the smallest desire to quilt anything.

My husband's mother taught me to use a sewing machine and he helps me with my machines. He leaves the quilt making up to me. I do think it's cute that he grew up with fabric, notions, pins and needles all over the house, so he gets it! Sometimes I'll say sorry for the mess in the sewing/bedroom and he just giggles. His mother was the same way!
