Both my chidren are able to use a sewing machine. My daughter has made two quilts - but when she was at Uni she used to make pocket money by taking up hems, making skirts and dresses for other girls, shortening boy's trousers, etc. Our son can shorten his own, and has made sweat tops for himself.

My daughter, who will be 30 in a month, needed the drapes in her new house taken up. I brought my sewing machine for the visit and offered to leave it with her. 'Why, I don't know how to use it!" she answered.I said that now she'd have one in the house, and I'd be glad to show her. "Why? I know how to put buttons on, and you know how to do all the other stuff!"

I'm the only one in my family who does the old fashioned hand stitching. My 36 yr old daughter occasionally hooks up her machine and put something small together....usually a new set of curtains, etc. If someone in my family doesn't get a clue, when I am no longer able to do this craft, my family will be left with only memories. I am the oldest granddaughter on both sides of the family. On Mama's side, there is no one in a direct blood line who quilts. On daddy's side, there are only two of his sisters left older than I am. They are quickly nearing the age when they won't be able to hand stitch anymore.....

My daughter is only 16months, but when i sew, she has to be right there watching me , she loves it. She also loves looking at all my quilting books, and touching all the fabric at the quilt shop. She is definitely a quilter in the making. I bought her a shirt for valentines day that says born to quilt
