Does anybody else have trouble making yourself bind a quilt?

I, personally, would use shorter strips, like 18" or 20" of each fabric, and seam them together with a 45 degree seam into a long enough strip. Then measure carefully so that you are not ending on a corner or with the same two strips together at the end. You may have to fudge a little at the end but it will look very nice with your quilt.

I must be one of the crazy people who love to do binding. I love the hand sewing. I need to have something for my hands to do when I am watching TV. There is nothing as thrilling as seeing a perfect square corner on the quilt. I have finally gotten to the point where over 90% of my corners come out great. Machine sewn bindings are OK but I much prefer the hand sewn for my quilts.

Binding isn't my most favorite part of quilting but it does mean that the quilt is on it's way to being a finished quilt. I count the corners as I go around them, each corner sewn is one closer to finishing. I've pieced binding many times using 18-24" strips, it really makes the quilt look nice.
Putting your heavy quilt on a big table so you can hand stitch the binding down in the back would keep it from being such a heavy job for you.
