I can not buy FQ for some reason I think I need more fabric than that. I may love the fabric but the fear of FQ not being enough stop me. Am I the only one?

I think it depends on what your project is as to whether or not FQ is the way to go. They were the perfect size to build my "scrap" fabric pile from since they are small-ish. The plan was to make a small four-patch quilt from them, but that's relegated to the back burner now.

I only buy them when I HAVE to for a guild when they are used for gift exchanges, ect. I usually try to get 3 yards of a fabric I really like, so 1/4 yard is not working for me most of the time.

I seldom buy FQ's unless the quilt I am working on needs many small, different fabrics. For the price, I would rather spend a bit more for 1/2 yds.

I also find that a minimum of a half yard works for me - purses, table runners, wall quilts and backings for small wall quilts. These days with a sizable stash, I buy 1 yard or above only with a specific project already planned, lol. I think I justify a half yard as O.K. to stash (i.e. not too expensive.) Also as a more contemporary style quilter, half yards work well for a full/queen size quilt using a fair number of fabrics.

I don't fear buying FQ. I believe buying yardage is cheaper. Plus buying a yard of fabric instead of a FQ allows leftover fabric to be added to my stash.

Used to always buy fat quarters (I was afraid to commit to more than that) but these days I usually buy three yards if I love it. If I don't, I buy none. I am doing the "let sleeping dogs lie" pattern and amy using fat quarters for that since it's all I need of each fabric.

I only buy FQ's if I have a particular project in mind, like a tote. I have been burned before by not buying enough and and not being able to find the fabric again.
