I use to purchase fabrics at Walmart, but our Walmarts here have removed the fabric totally from their stores. Makes going to Walmart a lot less appealing now. Nothing to really look forward to. I think that they lost a lot of good customers when they dropped the fabric department.

I've gotten some really nice fabs there in the past...usually by RJR fabrics. But, no more....my Walmart doesn't have fabric anymore.

I do not categorically like or dislike any fabric. My experience with Walmart has been OK and I found some pretties in the past. Now Hancock's I know that I need to check everything that comes off the bolt. JoAnn - well, that's a different thread. Generally I don't go to WalMart to do fabric shopping, but if I'm there, I take a look and I have snagged some interesting patterns.

At least you are close to Tyler so you can go to Hancocks, Hobby Lobby & LQS.

I live around the Modesto.Ca. area and so far Turlock and the Modesto stores still caryy fabric. I hear the remodeling is coming but, everyone including the gals who want to keep their jobs keep coming up with petitions you sign and send to the corporate headquarters. I do buy alot of fabric there and often from the $1.50 yard table if I like it and it is not thin material. But I have learned the hard way that especially those bolts are always short and do not have the yardage in it it claims as a new bolt. Therefore I make them remeasure thses as I will not pay for yardage that is not there. Say they claim it is 6 yrds. because the band is there and unbroken. Actually when it is remeasured it is anywhere up to almost a yard short. Make sure they reasure any bolt they claim has not been cut off of. I have even found this to be true of bolts off the shelf at full prices!!

What would happen if everyone who posted on this post cut the http address at the top of the first page of this posting and went to Walmart.com and pasted it in a message to them about how disappointed we are about losing our fabric department in our local stores? It probably wouldn't help, but would let them know just what we think!!!
The fabric in the Martinsville, IN store is 25% off because they are doing a remodel and we will lose the fabric department here too.

I shop for fabric in Walmart. They carry a lot of licensed prints like sports teams, Disney characters etc. Since I make a lot of Linus quilts those prints are something I use a lot. They carry several grades of fabrics, you just have to pay attention to what you buy.
