My Nana tied all of her quilts. She didn't have the money for batting so she put old army blankets in the middle. you really had no choice but to tie them since they were so thick. Nana is gone now but her quilts are the warmest heaviest quilt I have. When I use her quilt I don't move all night in the bed..I guess since it is so heavy..lol.

My mom made tons and tons of quilts every year for hospitals and what not. But us kids had to roll them and tie them.I love it but in this new modern world you give someone a quilt that's tied and they give you that " what planet are you from "look

I tie all the quilts I make for the homeless vets. They love them and some keep them for years. I also tie baby quilts but I use floss and a square knot. It must be a true square knot so it will not untie and come out.

I think it depends on the type and size of quilt.

Is there a particular thread/yarn that you like? Embroidery floss?

I have tied quilts in the past. I like them. They are nice . I get the urge every now & then to tie them. Guess it depends on my mood. LOL

I still tie certain quilts. Others I hand quilt. I like the look of both. I use embroidery thread, all 6 strands.
