    It is gorgeous! I checked Barbara Brackman's Encyclopedia of patterns and it is not in there. Must be original.

    You may be able to get help from your state historical society, or the state where your great, great grandmother lived when she made the quilt - it may be a local variation...

    What a wonderful treasure! It's wonderful it found it's way to you to love and appreciate it.

    It is a Kansas Troubles; however your GGM made it uniquely her own by putting a colored square instead of a white. If you look at the photo you'll see the outside corner square is set in. In a KT block that corner square is white/background. Lovely idea and a lot more interesting.

    don't know the name, but I would draw it up on a grid and make my own pattern calling it "monster mouth" - it makes me think of a mouth full of teeth, might make a cute Halloween stlye wall hanging or lap quilt. Maybe red, white for the mouth part and blacks and theme fabric for the HST. sharet
