I know that for a lot of you Walmart is the only choice for fabric.
I'm in Bentonville, AR about 2 miles from the home office and a super center. Several years ago Walmart had fabric and the other fabric stores went out of business. Then Walmart took out their fabric department and it made it very difficult to buy fabric. Then Hobby Lobby came in. Several quilt shops opened and Walmart brought back fabrics. Just in the last few months Hancocks opened close by. I refuse to buy fabric from Walmart and give the other shops my business. I can go into Hobby Lobby or Hancocks and there are always at least 2 people at the cutting counter.
The same goes for groceries and hardware. We have a very nice grocery store close which is a small local chain. I will drive by Walmart and go to the other store to buy groceries. There is a small hardware store about 5 miles from me that I will go to and receive great help instead of going to Walmart.

What Gladmaker said is true regarding buying locally. Our local Mad Butcher has sales each week and if you are a smart shopper you can buy from home folks as cheap as Walmart - many times cheaper. I only go to WM when I absolutely cannot get what I want in my hometown. We have one grocery store, one hardware store and a Dollar General (which is disgraceful), two drug stores and 3 gas stations.

I pick up the house phone and ask the operator to overhead page someone to the cutting table, works every time.

Reading your posts reminds me why I don't stand in line to buy fabric any more. I order online and have been rarely disappointed. Just not worth my time waiting for someone to arrive and (usually slowly) cut the fabric for me.

I have called the main number of stores from my phone and asked them to send help since there didn't seem to be any workers in the store. Amazing how quick someone shows up in a panic. I'm just too old to put up with the "new" customer service. Google the number of the local store on your smart phone and dial away.
