Does anyone use plain muslin for backing?

I use it some for wall hangings, tablerunners. Have never used on large quilt. I like to use coordinating fabric as back often shows when in use. I might if I had a quilt with a light background but most of mine are bright. Also print will hide stitching better.

I just bought Muslin for my queen quilt that will go in my questroom. I think it will be fine. I doubt my quest will be checking the backside of my quilt. For my lapquilts and tablerunners I like to use a print. I also use print if I am giving them away as gifts. For my lapquilts I love to use flannel from my LQS. Keepstakes flannel is really nice and I like that they have wonderful solid colors.

I like good quality muslin, even the perma-press is nice to use. If it is loose, not tight weave, not worth the time for the money. That stuff is great for making strip blocks for quilts. I really like to use the tea-dyed muslin for older, vintage look.

sells 108" wide very reasonably. Every yard of it is actually giving you 3 yards of regular width.

I echo these sentiments. If you want the quilting to show, then the tone-on-tones or solds are wonderful. Personally, I use pretty backs to mimic the pretty front. I even love the pieced backs with fabrics that were used in the top. When spending the effort and money for quality tops, I would not detract by using a lower quality muslin. Before you start throwing tomatoes at me, there are some higher quality muslins that are incredible!
