Does batting wear out?
I've been using the same quilt on my bed for about 6 years, washing it about 4 times a year. The last time I washed it, I noticed how thin it's getting. Does batting wear out? I used Warm and Natural. Time to put a new one on the bed

I have never heard of batting wearing out especially W&N and Hobbs. Hope that you are reading instructions on washing quilts, little agitation and I ONLY used quilt soap that is gentle on the fabrics.

I usually wash my quilts 2-4 times a year, depends on how many times I rotate them! I just don't see how the batting could get thinner if the fabric isn't worn through but I guess it's possible, all the more reason to make another quilt!

I wash one particular quilt monthly, if not more often. It's MY naptime quilt and it gets dragged all over - the couch, the floor, the terrace, sports events. It's over 10 years old, W&N batting. It's fine. I've also made kids quilts that were taken to school for naptime and washed weekly, and were still going strong a couple of years later.
I'm surprised you're seeing a difference in your quilt.

Just a thought, but could the batting actually be shifting? Don't know the density of your quilting, but if lots of "open" spaces, could the batting be bunching or moving in these spots? As I said, just a thought...
