No ideas about thread colors, but will be anxious to see what you come up with.
It's going to be a gorgeous hanging. I'm also suggesting to leave more space between the poppies and leaves. Have you thought about using double batting to add dimension?

I like the sketchy/hand drawn look of the poppies and your outlining adds to that effect. Well done!

The quilting looks fantastic. It doesn't matter to anyone but you what you would do differently with thread colors.

I think the contrasting thread is lovely and actually enhances the poppies.
The part I find a little odd is the outer leaf shapes. It kind of distracts from the poppies. Maybe make them a little smaller, or stipple in/around them more, with the background thread, to make them recede into the background a bit.
I like how using the blue thread in the background pulls the overall tone of the piece into a different mood.

Outlining with darker thread gave it a 3 dimensional look. You could always experiment with which darker thread color gives the best effect. Double batting would add to that look. The FMQ is fantastic!

Gosh, can I buy the practice piece? NO, it is not weird So much so, that I would showcase it on a tote bag and wear it proudly anywhere!
