I agree with the suggestion of a narrow white flange and black binding. Leaving it very neutral makes it supremely versatile -- you could use it as a wallhanging in almost any decor. Throw a brightly colored border on it, and you've just limited the places where it works. Lovely piece, any finishing choices you make.

I personally like it just the way it is. It's a great quilt.

a tough of color would add to it. I do like it as is also. perhaps teal, lime green, coral. I am not a red person.

I love black/white/grey quilts. The only thing I would do would be to add sashing in either black or white depending on the look you want. This would frame out the block sets. I would frame around the outside of the 'like' blocks - ex. the outer border of the 2 in the top left and right corners and around the outside of the three small blocks in the lower left corner. This would highlight the samples.

Your arrangement of the blocks is super great. It carries the eye all around the quilt with little surprises here and there. You have an artist's eye. I like the suggestions for using a lime green as a border accent. Very trendy right now.

I also think a small bit of color will bring your whole quilt to life. I am thinking of a flange of brightness; a bright Aqua blue or a yellow or lime green. Even the red if that is what moves you. Then maybe your black mottled fabric for border if you have enough, then black binding.

You have many great suggestions. I did a quilt for my baby great grandson and I thought that it needed for color but not a lot so I did sashing in a blue with a red striped down the middle and it looked good.
