I think that most quilters suffer from the same problem. We are all extremely neat and organized by nature but we are dealing with fabric scraps and fat quarters that take on a life of their own and wonder. The same can be true of spools of thread, bobbins and especially seam-rippers have been known to roll for amazing distances. One minute neat as a pin and the next the room looks like it was stirred with a spoon. It's more than a poor neat quilter can cope with. So throw your hands in the air and surrender. . . And be very happy that most sewing rooms have a door, that closes. (Grin)

I like the way you put that. And it's true for things other than fabric.

pretty much I'm sorry to say. I have a nine foot door for a cutting table and only a clear area on my cutting mat. Every time I clean it off, it gets cluttered again. I used to be so organized but the last two or three years, it's just plain gone.

Mine gets cleaned, gets messy, gets cleaned, gets messy...a vicious cycle! I just close the door when work is in progress... I can't make a quilt in a day like a lot of people!!!

I once asked a wonderful friend (my best friends mother) why she had not taught me to be neat like my best friend..She looked at me and said I didn't teacher her to be neat. she just was. After raising 5 children I have some who are neater than others..but it seems to be a born that way thing.. so I was not born that way.. I like neat!! I dream of neat! worked at being neat! Still messy .. but I get lots done and finally I look out at the woods, it is beautiful and not so neat sometimes so it will all turn out ok. I want to have a space that works better..but until I get it, everything is ok!

Ronda and Alice, I am with you. I have a small 11x11 sewing room and I clean up after each project out of necessity. But organization can be overrated. I don't know why people even worry about it unless it keeps them from getting their work done.
