Question Doing Twister but have question on border

Hi everyone, hope everyone is learning the new site. I'm still navigating. So here is my question, I'm just going to be adding my borders to my quilt top, then on to doing the cutting with the small twister. It says to add a 3 inch border, are they saying cut your border at 3" and add or should I be cutting them at 3 1/2" then attaching?

    Thanks everyone for your help

I cut mine 3",then they are 2 1/2".After it's sewn back together you can then add more borders if you want.Connie in CO

The three inch border is not a real border, it is to let you finish cutting the squares and is more of a background for the pinwheels. I am working a a Christmas tree right now and the three inch border is the same color as my background fabric. After I get it finished I will add a stopper border and a wider border. Once it is done I will post a photo.

Patterns usually include the seam allowance when giving cutting directions.
