Like Tartan, I was going to suggest making those orphan blocks into little quilts for preemie nurseries. My grandson was a preemie and I remember my son commenting that the first time he saw his son there, his Isolette had a quilt on it. What a comfort to think that Mom was there in some way. Makes the nurseries have a more homey feel and these are often sent home with the babies when they are able to leave.
For those who don't survive, the little quilts are comforting to family rather than something generic and institutional. Again these are sometimes sent home with the grieving parents and are a keepsake of their little angel.

My girls, now in their teens, loved their AG dolls. I made plenty of fancy dresses, pjs, bathrobes, swimsuits and costumes for their dolls... As well as bedding to fit the beds and bunk beds my husband made for them. I made mattresses, "sheets" (which were actually a pillow case covering for the mattresses) quilts and fleece blankets with the dolls names machine embroidered on them.
The AG dolls and "accessories" are the one toy collection that they haven't let me put away. Even though they don't play with them, they still want them out in their rooms. I think they see their AG dolls as friends and don't want to store them away.
Making quilts for them is definitely worth the effort..

My first project was a doll quilt when I was a child, under the watchful eye of my mom. As I recall, the doll bed was made from a cigar box . She didn't quilt but did sew and made dresses for me and my sister.

Our Christmas Council gives dolls away for those less fortunate and little quilts for those dolls are fabulous. Maybe you can find an organization that does something like ours. Little and not so little girls, really do love to wrap up their dolls or stuffed animals!
