As you travel to Kentucky from the east especially, you might want to visit this web site and see the different trails.

My DH and I were fortunate to see over 100 blocks on the barns a couple years ago when we traveled in Kentucky. (We have now ridden our goldwing in all 120 counties in Kentucky, but that is a different story :)) We didn't realize what we were seeing for a couple days and then "duh" we started seeing them left and right. It became a game to see who could spot one first. We even turned around a few times to get a closer look. According to some of the brochures we looked at, the familes will answer questions about their squares as they have special meaning to them. You have to submit a request and have it approved in order to be placed on the trail. There are specific sizes for the squares also. Very very interesting to us.

Even if you aren't coming this way, the web site shows it's a wonderful to enjoy some of the sites and beautiful quilt blocks on the barns.

Oh the reason I said "from the east", we found most of the quilt blocks in the northeast corner of Kentucky...the trails have all the blocks laid out and give a nice "history" of some of them. You can spend several days just looking at the blocks on the quilt barns.
