I stopped prewashing everything at some point, that bit me when I backed a quilt with red flannel from Joann's.

    I prewash reds.

I couldn't imagine not prewashing. I bought a dark blue print from Fabric Depot for a quilt backing and had to wash it more than half a dozen times (really!) with multiple color catchers each time before it quit bleeding. Don't ruin a nice quilt. Prewash!

I can't think of a logical reason why they would tell you not to prewash. I wash all my fabric 99% of the time, the only exception is fabric from kits, which I seldom buy, as I like to use my own color/fabric choices. If you don't prewash you run the risk of ruining a finished quilt when it was washed, unless you plan to dry clean quilts. I agree with Lori S. and I would not follow their instructions, but it would be interesting to find out why they say that.

I wash all my materials, especially red ones in hot water with Synthropol before I quilt with them.

    This was my thoughts.

I would call the store and ask tem what the reasoning is and why they don't want it pre-washed. Maybe they can enlighten you.

I should have written "momma hen". I got flogged when I was about 3 for trying to play with a hen's baby chicks. All three "setting, wet, and momma" are mad, mad, mad! lol

If so, I'd rather know before I put it into a block
