Hi, I am making my first child's quilt. Someone told me to make sure and make extra binding strips and store them somewhere because kids drag the quilt around and wear out the binding and if you have extra binding you can replace it later. I was wondering if I could double bind it. I was thinking to completely bind the quilt with a normal 2.25 or 2.5" folded (double) binding, then put a SECOND wider binding over the first one. Then if the binding starts to wear, you would just remove it and the other binding would be underneath. Any thoughts on this???

It is an interesting idea :D
I would also keep scraps from the rest for patching later too :D:D:D

I would think if it was dragged, there is a good chance that the second binding, underneath the first would also get ruined. I would just keep extra binding on hand, it just might need occasional patching.

Interesting. IMHO, I wouldn't double bind it because both would have to be ripped off as they'd both be sewn, initially, to the quilt. I never minded patching "well loved" quilts. Just pick a co-ordinating color.
