my daughters MIL makes only double knit quilts. Mostly blocks and I have one. Nice and warm. Make great lap quilts. I haven't tried it myself yet.

Nursing homes love lap quilts made out of the double knit. It wears really well, washes easily. I agree they dk makes great charity quilts'

if you do not mind sewing with it, and you have the time, then yes, take it and make some quilts and donate them to shelters, care centers, homeless.......i would never turn down fabric that i could pay forward..........

Nope.
it is a stretchy headache to combine with woven fabric!
But.
If any of it is lightweight or silky lightweight, it makes wonderfil tops and T shirts!

Back in the '80's I made a patch quilt from double knit squares of fabrics I had used to make clothing and purchased clothing - most of them sentimental items. I used a backing of lightweight polyester gabardine fabric, flannel sheet for batting. I used a large outline stitch inside the square and tied each square in the center with embroidery thread. It is extremely warm, shows no wear and still has sentimental value as I can identify material used for my kids clothes, my grandmothers clothes, etc. Double knit is also a great fabric for making rugs - cut in strips, gather and sew light weight canvas material - kind of like braid rugs. A friend of mine cuts it into large 10-12 inch squares and make 'throws' to cover her porch swing. Very durable!

Thanks for all the advice, when I read how warm they are, it just gives me that warm and loving feeling I find in quilts. Now for me to get busy and make some, maybe a winter project though.
