I belong to a charity group that makes afghans out of polyester 7 " squares. I would not use it in a cotton quilt.

I have made balls out of double knit. Used the pentagon shape which then ends up a ball shape. Stuffed it with pl figre. Makes great toys.

When my twins went to college(in the 90's) I made them each a quilt/comforter we dubbed "the big ugly". ;-) I made one in a rail fence, the other in either a 4 or 9 patch,I think. Did them on the serger. Then I used a puffy poly batt, backed them with a low loft fleece (like jogging suits) and tied them. They were great for indoors, outdoors, in the car,etc and wash and wear forever. Our daughter still looks at hers once in a while with nostalgia and recalls a garment made for her, me, her grandma, etc. Definitely good for charity projects.

I have a king sized quilt made from double knit. My grandmother made it for me and I wouldn't give it up for anything. It is very warm in the winter. I don't use it in the summer.

I'VE GOT 1 MY MOM MADE ABOUT 30 YRS AGO, THAT WE USE IN THE CAMP TRAILER. SINCE ITWEARS WELL, BE SURE AND USE A STURDY BACKING. JUST TIE THEM. DON'T CUT THE SQUARES TOO SMALL. 5 1/2" OR LARGER. MINE HAD A LOT OF PASTEL SOLIDS AND A FEW PRINTED ONES, DONE ON THE DIAGOAL. GO TOGETHER QUICKLY.

I made a double knit quilt years, and years ago. I backed it with a sheet. Let me tell you, that is one heavy quilt. AND, it will never wear out. Well, the top will never wear out, the binding needs a little work, but it makes great pallets for kids to sleep on.

my mom made us all quilts from double knits in the 60's, they are still around, in great shape, they wear like steel. She also made one of heat transfer polyester, my son and daughter in law use it in the car for the picnics, the grass does not stick to it. My grand daughters also share the double bed quilt in the car on trips. Those quilts will never die!

Our local VA hospital would kill for lap robes made of polyester double knit. It holds up to the constant washing much better than cotton.

Lovely quilt!
I found a finished double bed size top made of double knits at my thrift shop. It's done in a "Trip Around the World" pattern. Nothing fancy. I got it for just two dollars then wondered what the heck I would border and back it with. In the meantime my daughters unanimously agreed they had never seen an uglier quilt top. I don't know why! The colors are bright and clear. The whites are sparkling white. What's NOT to like? Anyhow, a few weeks ago I found quite a lot of very white yardage in the exact same weight of double knit as the quilt top. Now my problem is solved. I will add white borders, and put a white back on it. I plan to tie it instead of quilt it. One thing I know is that I must use a ball tip needle for the double knit. I may give the quilt to our local homeless shelter, or I may like it enough to use it on my bed. I don't care what my daughters think. That are all fabric snobs!!
