I am going to be starting a "traditional" crazy quilt and I have heard about these templates that let you mark where your seam stitching will go. They are somewhat expensive and I wondered if anyone else has used them and can tell me if they are worth the money?

I agree with luvs_2_quilt. Save the money for fabric or something else. I just used a regular quilting ruler, either 1"x6" or 1"x12" when I needed to use a straight edge or ruler. Worked very well.
